Peer Support Specialist
A Peer Support Specialist is a Veteran who serves as a role model in sharing their own experiences with mental health issues and what coping tools they have found helpful in the past. Specialist complete 75 hours of training in ethics, confidentiality and navigating the VA Healthcare System.
Peer Support Specialist:
- Teach and educate, but they do not provide advice, treatment or therapy
- Can inspire hope and advocate to reduce the stigma of mental health issues
- Can partner with you on your journey to recovery by being supportive and encouraging
Peer Support is for VA Loma Linda patients who are facing challenges with a difficult mental health issue or someone who needs help with a Recovery plan.
