Brandon and Rexo became a team in August of 2006 during the Iraq war. They worked together for three years and formed a strong bond between dog and handler. They faced constant danger on a daily basis.
In 2008 both Brandon and Rexo were in an explosion while traveling in a Humvee. Due to medical injuries Brandon had to surrender Rexo in 2009, but Rexo continued on with another trainer. By April of 2011 Brandon was medically retired from the Army.
Brandon kept Rexo on his mind, wondering how he was doing. In December of 2011 Brandon learned that Rexo was being retired from service and decided to put in paperwork to try to adopt. The good news came in April 2012 that Rexo was coming home with him.
Brandon and his wife made the 12 hour drive to pick up Rexo in Texas. He worried a little that Rexo may have forgotten him, but when he got to the home Rexo was staying at, there was no doubt he remembered Brandon. Now back home in Hemet, California both Brandon and Rexo take it day by day. They each deal with their medical conditions, but that hasn’t stopped them from enjoying retirement and each day together.
